Provider Education Program Dates

provider_education_Header“We are currently recruiting teachers for our Provider Education Course“.  We are interested in interviewing candidates who are licensed mental health professionals (LCSW, LMFT, PH.D. Psychologists, or RN’s)  AND who have a family member with a mental illness or mental health professionals who have a psychiatric diagnosis themselves.

An Orange County Training will be scheduled in the Spring of 2015.   This 2 day training will occur on a Saturday and Sunday (all day for both days).   Date is to be determined.

Trained, certified teachers will receive a stipend of $60 for each class, or $300 for all 5 classes taught.

The following is a description of the course:

WHAT IS THE PROVIDER EDUCATION PROGRAM?

The Provider Education Program is a fifteen hour education program designed to be taught by a five-person teaching team comprised of two family members of individuals living with mental illness, who are also Family- to-Family or NAMI Basics teachers; two individuals living with mental illness, and one mental health professional who is also either a family member, or an individual living with a mental illness.

The program is structured around five 3-hour sessions that are presented to mental health providers by a trained team who presents the material from their lived experience. The Provider Education Program makes information available to providers that they do not receive in their professional training: what it is like to live with mental illness every day of your life. The program gives providers the opportunity to develop an insight into what individuals living with mental illness struggle with on a daily basis across all aspects of their lives and the resulting impact on their entire family. NAMI believes that once providers develop this essential insight they will view individuals with mental illness and their families as partners in the treatment process, and the result will be improved outcomes for everyone.

15 CE Credits offered upon completion of this education program.
